Hotel EV charging review Sept 2019
Threat or Opportunity to the Hotel sector?
This publication aims to share with hoteliers the likely size of the electric vehicle market, the speed at which it might happen and the reasons driving electric vehicle sales split across both the corporate and private markets. It also looks at a ‘ballpark’ cost of installing charge points, together with financing options including monthly rental. The survey results are also provided.
In September 2019 we conducted a survey of hotels in the Bath and West Wiltshire area. This revealed that few hotels had installed electric vehicle charge points and amongst other matters it exposed a lack of information on what is happening in the electric vehicle market and the likely rapid increase of electric vehicles. The relevance to hotels is that electric vehicle owners will insist on charging their vehicles overnight and hence hotels will either win or lose growing numbers of customers, dependent on access to charge points in their car-parks.
Rather than respond because of the threat to losing customers, hoteliers should turn around and see it as an opportunity to retain and win customers and increase revenue per customer from the sale of electricity for charging.
